Taekwon-do is a martial art which originated in Korea. Its founder is Choi Hong Hi (1918-2002) who created this new style by combining and restructuring parts of the Japanese Karate and the ancient Korean fighting style. Choi Hong Hi was a Korean soldier who believed that Taekwon-do is more than just a sport but a way to reach our body's and mind's limits through active physical and psychological training.
Choi Hong Hi was determined to teach and help everybody who wanted to learn, regardless of race, age or sex. He traveled all around the world spreading this new art of martial arts.
Today, Taekwon-do is a popular and modern part of the martial arts family. It is well structured and documented. Taekwon-do's acrobatic like kicks and characteristic wave motion are typical features of this new branch of martial arts.
